14 month old Song Sheng from Jinhu, eastern China is known as Fish Boy to the locals after he began developing fish scales on his skin.
Doctors believe that the little boy is suffering from a rare condition called Lamellar ichthyosis, due to a lack of pores in Song Sheng’s skin he is unable to sweat or lose heat. This means that not only does the skin flake away like fish scales, but Song Sheng is constant pain and at risk from fever.
Sheng’s father, Dehui explained that he has to keep his son in a bath of ice water to keep him cool.
“He is in a lot of pain all the time and if we don’t have enough ice he gets a fever” he said.
The condition is incurable, but can be treated to relieve the symptoms. Anyone wishing to donate money towards Sheng’s treatment can do so by visiting this website: Journalism Without Borders
