A woman in Colombia gave undertakers the fright of their lives when she miraculously rose from the dead in their mortuary.

The woman had been officially dead for hours after doctors at a hospital in Cali, western Colombia, failed to resuscitate her following multiple organ failure. The unnamed woman is a multiple sclerosis sufferer, and the organ failure was connected to her condition. Doctors tried in vain several times to revive her but eventually gave up hope and certified her dead. The ‘corpse’ was then sent to the funeral home where undertakers began the embalming process.

As the undertakers began to apply formaldehyde to the remains they were shocked to see the woman begin breathing again and start moving. The woman was rushed straight back to the hospital, where she remains in a coma. Doctors have put the miracle down to ‘Lazarus syndrome’, the spontaneous return of circulation after failed attempts at resuscitation. There have been over 25 cases of Lazarus syndrome reported worldwide since 1982.
