SilurianClassic Doctor Who fans may be pleased to hear that the Silurians are set to make a return to the sci-fi show when new boy Matt Smith takes control of the Tardis later this year.

Scottish actress Neve McIntosh spilled her guts in a recent interview with the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I play twins, and they’re big lizardwarrior women.” Neve explained.

“They’re one of the Silurian tribes that have been undisturbed under the earth. And of course we get disturbed.”

For those of you unfamiliar with the Silurians they first appeared in 1970, when Jon Pertwee was playing the Doctor. The Sulirians are a reptilian race of humanoids who were the first sentient life on planet Earth, they decided to hibernate deep underground millions of years ago and were rudely awoken by a nuclear reactor in their first appearance, Doctor Who and the Silurians. On that occasion the cold blooded monsters were blown up by UNIT, the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce before they could take control of the planet.

In 1984 the buggers were back again, this time teaming up with the blinkin’ Sea Devils and going up against Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor. Again, the Silurians get wiped out this time with poisonous gas. On both meetings with the Silurians the Doctor has tried to find a peaceful solution for the ugly reptiles and humans to live alongside each other, but always ending up having to destroy them.
