Saturday saw the first ever World Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwich Eating Championship held at the Isle Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The contest was held in honour of Elvis Presley, who listed peanut butter and banana sandwiches as one of his favourite foods before he died of a massive heart attack whilst sat on the toilet. If Elvis had lived he would have celebrated his 75th birthday this week, possibly with a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
This weekend’s contest saw the usual suspects turn out to fill their boots, Bob Shoudt, Tim Janus, Erik Denmark and Jim Reeves all finished in the top ten. Shoudt took the title, which came as little surprise to the gathered fans. The world’s number 3 competitive eater blew away the competition by gorging on a massive 36 PB & banana sandwiches in just 10 minutes and waddled off with the first prize of $2,000.
Tim Janus, AKA Eater X took second place with a miserable 27 sandwiches. Janus and Shoudt are arch rivals and yet another defeat to Shoudt will be humiliating for Janus. The full results of the competition can be seen on the official International Federation of Competitive Eating website: IFOCE.
