Panic Attack!

A film producer from a small company in Uruguay has just been offered a staggering $30million off the back of a five minute video he posted on YouTube.

Fede Alvarez created and uploaded Ataque de Pánico! last month, hoping it would get a few hits. The short film shows a very impressive CGI sequence of giant robots and UFOs attacking the Uruguayan capital Montevideo. They had me at “giant robots and UFOs”.

The film has become a huge internet phenomena, and more besides. On top of the video going viral, and getting well over one and a half million views since it was uploaded a few weeks ago the film has also brought Alvarez a lot of attention from Hollywood studios and production companies including DreamWorks, Fox, Warner Bros and the Weinstein Company.

“I uploaded on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios,” Alvarez told the BBC.

Today the news broke that Alvarez has accepted an offer of $30million from Spiderman, Evil Dead and Legend of the Seeker producer Sam Raimi. Raimi has asked Alvarez to produce a sci-fi movie shot in South America, more details as we get them. For now, check out what all the fuss is about and enjoy Ataque de Pánico!
