The BBC have announced that a third season of the fantasy drama Merlin has been commissioned and the show will return sometime in 2010.
Merlin appears to be something of a ratings winner for the BBC’s Saturday night slot, BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson says the show is perfect Saturday night viewing.
“With its mix of magic, adventure and humour Merlin is perfect Saturday evening family television, and we are thrilled that Shine Television will be creating a new series for BBC One. I’m looking forward to seeing what adventures our popular young wizard, and his friends in Camelot, will go on in series three.”
The show stars Colin Morgan as a young Merlin and Bradley James as a young Prince Arthur. It’s basically a Smallville for fans of Arthurian legend and manages to plod on whilst only occasionally referencing the actual legend.
