South African Medicine Murder

Two men in South Africa were sentenced to life in prison yesterday for decapitating their friend and hacking off his genitals.

30 year old Xolani Kubheka and 25 year old Siphiwe Khanyile lured their drinking buddy Johannes Banda to a secluded area and chopped off his head and testicles to sell to a witchdoctor for use in traditional medicine, or muti.

The two defendants had agreed to a transaction with witchdoctor Vusi Sibiya who said he required a man’s head and genitals to create a voodoo potion. Sibiya had offered 2,000 Rand (£160) for the ingredients and the murderous pair set out to find a suitable victim. The court heard that after searching the area for a while to find a murder victim the two men decided to harvest the body parts from their drinking friend Banda. They lured Banda to a secluded area late at night and butchered him mercilessly.

Judge Lucy Mailula sentenced both men to life in prison for the brutal attack.
