Lucky, the world’s oldest sheep has died in Australia aged 23, twice the average lifespan of a sheep.
Lucky was hand reared and raised on a farm in Lake Bolac, near Melbourne by owner Delrae Westgarth who found her as an abandoned lamb. Despite living in an air conditioned shed Lucky died from heat exhaustion during last weeks heatwave in Melbourne.
“She used to come and howl at the back gate, torment the dogs and that sort of thing,” Mrs Westgarth told ABC.
Lucky, Polwarth-Dorchester cross, was officially recognised by Guinness World of Records in 2007 as the world’s oldest sheep. Her official certificate is on the wall of Lake Bolac’s tourist information centre which also sells samples of her wool and other tat.
