Torchwood and Doctor Who producer Russell T Davies has revealed this week that plans for a fourth season of Torchwood are well underway and all that remains is for the BBC to officially confirm the show is returning.
Following the international success of Torchwood: Children of Earth this summer many believe the show is bound to return, but after the deaths of so many lead characters at the end of season two and during Children of Earth some feared they’d seen the last of Captain Jack Harkness and his team of misfits. Not only were three of the team dead, Gwen Cooper was pregnant, the Torchwood hub was destroyed and Captain Jack seemingly quit.
Davies insists that the show will be coming back and filming should begin as soon as January 2010. There was no confirmation that John Barrowman would return as the gay Captain, but without Captain Jack there really is no Torchwood.
“The recession has hit British television, but fingers crossed, it will be a go. We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season],” Davies says.
