One lucky couple won their combined body weight in beer yesterday at a wife carrying contest held at Hereford Racecourse as part of the venue’s annual Beer and Cider day.
The event was a 50 metre dash and contestants could choose to carry their partner either piggy-back style, a fireman’s lift or the method favoured by professional wife carriers which is upside down with the wife’s legs wrapped around her partner’s neck.
At yesterday’s event most competitors chose the simple piggy-back fashion, and it was a successful choice for winners Oliver Milligan and girlfriend Christina Davies. The competition was sponsored by Wye Valley Brewery who donated the prize of 24 stone in beer.
