In a recent interview with io9 to promote apocalyptic disaster movie 2012, John Cusack revealed that he’s trying to land the part of Jesse Custer in the much anticipated Preacher adaptation.

Preacher will eventually be directed by Sam Mendes, he’s been linked with the project for a number of years now and just when people start to forget it’s even meant to be happening some news breaks which reminds everyone. Mendes brought the project back to people’s attention back in May this year when he told Total Film that the screenplay was being produced by Big Fish writer John August.

Now things are hotting up again with Cusack revealing that Preacher is being talked about in Hollywood circles and he was keen to get on board with it. io9 asked the star if he’d seen any comic book adaptations floating around in Hollywood that he’d like to see get made.

“Yeah, I can, there was one or two that I heard of that sounded really cool. One of them was about, I think… it’s a vampire and a killer, and they’re on the road, and it’s this really strange story. I thought that sounded pretty cool. Also some of the obscure ones, I don’t know if there are any more superheroes left.” Cusack replied.

Preacher follows the adventures of preacher Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip and an alcoholic Irish vampire named Cassidy as they fight against redneck psychopaths and a Vatican lead secret organisation. When prompted Cusack confirmed that it was Preacher he was thinking of, and that he was trying to get involved in the making of it.

We’ve kind of jumped the gun and assumed he’ll be trying out for the part of Custer, he might be practicing his Irish accent. I can’t see him trying out for Arseface.
