Shiloh Pepin, a little girl who suffered from sirenomelia or “mermaid syndrome” has sadly died aged 10.

Shiloh appeared last month on the Oprah Winfrey Show and spoke bravely about living with sirenomelia, the condition effects just one in every 100,000 births and is about as common as conjoined twins occurring. With sirenomelia the child is born with it’s legs fused together which gives the appearance of a mermaid.

In Shiloh’s case her legs were fused, she had no lower colon or genitals and only one kidney which wasn’t functioning correctly. eCanadaNow report that Shiloh died from complications of pneumonia and she had been ill for over two weeks before eventually dying.
