Spiders On A Plane

TarantulaA British Airways plane was grounded yesterday at Edinburgh Airport after a passenger reported seeing a tarantula crawling under his seat.

The domestic shuttle service between London’s Heathrow and Edinburgh was cancelled and an insect expert called in to fumigate the aircraft, but chances of finding the nasty arachnid are slim to none. A British Airways insider told the Daily Record that there was no sign of the spider and trying to find such a small creature on an aeroplane would mean stripping the aircraft down to it’s bare bones.

“To carry out an exhaustive search of the aircraft for a spider would probably involve stripping it to its components.”

“It’s not unusual for insects to be found on board aircraft but it is unusual for something like this to be found on a domestic service.”

The aircraft was eventually flown to Gatwick Airport by a relief crew and carrying no passengers.

A spokesman for British Airways said: “The gentleman who reported the spider crawling under his feet said he recognised it as a tarantula, so we had to try to take appropriate action.”
