An unnamed golfer in South Carolina had his arm bitten off by an alligator when the animal attacked him on the Ocean Creek Golf Course.
Authorities have refused to disclose the man’s name, but say he is 75 years old. The elderly golfer is reported to have bent down to pick up his golf ball close to a pond on the course when a 10 foot alligator lunged forward and clamped it’s jaws around his arm. The man was then dragged into the pond and the alligator began rolling to try and drown him. During the struggle the man’s lower arm was completely severed.
Friends ran to the man’s assistance and managed to save his life by getting him back out of the pond and on to dry land. Dave Corneliussen from Tracks Wildlife Control was called to deal with the alligator. He and his team tracked down the reptile and killed it, they then slit the creature open and retrieved the victim’s severed arm in the hope doctors could reattach it.
The man was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, his condition is not known at the moment.
