New World Record For Biggest Cupcake

The cupcake war rages on as this week a new record holder was unveiled at the 2009 Think Pink Rocks event held on Saturday in Florida.

Global TV Concepts’ Big Top Cupcake produced a massive 1,316lb cupcake which measured a staggering four and one half feet tall and six feet wide. Previous record holders, Gourmet Gift Baskets managed to bake a 1224lb cake back in August when they failed to produce the 2500lb cake they were attempting due to a technical fault with their equipment. Don’t be surprised if you see them try to reclaim their title some time soon.

Big Top Cupcake, who specialise in baking utensils for huge cupcakes, baked this monster cake in aid of Breast cancer charities. The finished cake was cut up and sold with all proceeds going to Think Pink Rocks.

“This was a Giant Effort, Enormous Job and a Colossal amount of work. But with the Big Top world’s largest cupcake team… it was a piece of cake. In all seriousness – Breast Cancer is a disease that we need to eradicate and we can only do that through awareness, research and funding. We thought that with a Guinness World Attempt we could bring a new awareness to Think Pink Rocks, a breast cancer awareness charity. I needed to attempt this (without knowing that 97% of attempts fail) for my friends and my young daughters so that this will not be a topic of conversation when they get older,” said Laurie Braden, president of Global TV Concepts and creator of Big Top Cupcake.

The cake itself was a tasty chocolate one with pink icing and “sprinkles” which each measured five inches long.
