Champion Rat Killer

Bangladesh’s top rat killer has been awarded with a 14 inch colour television.

40 year old Mokhairul Islam chalked up 83,450 rat tails in nine months. Mokhairul had to produce a rat tail for every rodent he had exterminated and present it to the agricultural officials. His grand total more than doubled last year’s winner and also dwarfed second place winner Fakhrul Haque Akanda’s total of 37,450 rats.

Fakhrul also received a colour TV for second place.

“These bloody rats are my enemy, they destroy my gardens,” he told the Associated Press.

Rats are an enormous problem in Bangladesh, they destroy a huge portion of crops and in the past have caused devastating famine.
