Three months after ITV announced they would not be recommissioning dinosaur drama series Primeval a deal has been struck between ITV and UKTV.
Impossible Pictures who produce the show have been given the go ahead by ITV to begin making a fourth series which will premiere on ITV1 in spring 2011. The series will then be repeated on UKTV channel, Watch who will then premiere a fifth series later that same year. In total there will be 13 brand new episodes split between the two series. Andrew Lee Potts, Hannah Spearritt and Jason Flemyng have all been confirmed for the new episodes, the last series finale saw these lead characters stranded across time with no obvious way of ever getting back home.
Tim Haines, creative director of Impossible Pictures, told the Guardian: “I am thrilled that ITV has agreed to this new deal, which will allow Impossible Pictures to produce another 13 episodes of Primeval. The confidence demonstrated in the programme’s continued success here and abroad will help us bring more big-screen action and a whole host of new creatures roaring back into people’s living rooms.”
