Corpse Stolen And Mutilated

The body of a dead man was stolen from a funeral wake in Zimbabwe on Friday.

37 year old Gibson Runesu was murdered on Tuesday night (22nd September), he was stabbed in the stomach as he walked home after a drinking binge. Runesu’s body was discovered the next morning and taken to the city morgue. Police are still investigating the murder and no arrests have been made.

On Thursday evening Runesu’s family took his corpse from the mortuary and left it in a coffin in their home. But as mourners slept intruders broke into the home by cutting through a wall and stole the coffin with the body inside it.

“When we left the mortuary, everything was in place. We were surprised to find the body and coffin missing the following morning.

“The people who stole the coffin used a sharp object to cut the wall open since our house is made of wood and plastic,” Runesu’s widow told The Herald.

The body was soon recovered though, a neighbour found the corpse dumped nearby with the tongue and genitals cut off. The police were called and continued their investigations.

“After carrying out their investigations, they ordered us to bury the body as it was beginning to decompose,” the wife of the deceased said.

“At least we should thank God because we could have had nothing to bury,” she added.

Police believe the stolen tongue, penis and testicle glands will be used in black magic rituals.

“This is shocking. I think the murderers want to use the parts for ritual purposes. How can a person remove someone’s body for no reason?” one citizen said.
