Petite 44 year old mum of two Juliet Lee has beaten a crowd of fat blokes at the World Tamale Eating Championship in Texas yesterday.

Seven and a half stone Lee was the only woman competing at yesterdays contest, and she beat men who were twice her size. Lee is however ranked eighth in the International Federation of Competitive Eating’s leader board.

At Saturday’s event held at the Western Day festival in Old Town Lewisville, Lee guzzled 48 tamales in 12 minutes, and still had room for more. Lee took first prize of $1,500, second place went to 24 year old Nate Biller who walked away with $1,00 in prize money. Biller is ranked 18th in the world of competitive eating.

Tamales are a Mexican delicacy consisting of steam-cooked corn dough. This is the first time Lee has competed in this event and at times she found it hard going.

“This was my first tamale contest,” she told the Dallas News.

“It was very dry and heavy, hard to get down.”
