David Cronenberg will be remaking The Fly for a second time.
Cronenberg first made a version of The Fly in 1986, it starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis and made Cronenberg a household name. The film was a remake of a 1958 sci-fi classic by Kurt Neumann which originally starred the incredible Vincent Price and B-Movie star David Hedison as a scientist who invents a transporter device and accidentally transports himself along with a fly and the two become mixed up.
The 1958 original had a great costume of a man with a giant fly’s head, and a scene at the end of a fly with an itty-bitty little David Hedison head trapped in a spiders web calling for help.
When Cronenberg remade the film in 1986 he used far more impressive special effects make-up and costumes to create a truly horrifying and disgusting creature as Goldblum’s character slowly transforms into a giant hideous insect. Now he wants to remake the film once more, but hopes to improve on the special effects even more.
