Summit Entertainment have announced a reboot of the classic 80s movie Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert.
The remake will be directed by Fast & Furious director Justin Lin and written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
A reboot is really the only sensible way to go with a film which ended leaving no real way of writing a sequel. Although that didn’t prevent the three piss poor sequels, a spin-off live action TV show, and two animated TV shows. The original film was excellent, despite Christopher Lambert playing a Scotsman with a French accent, and Sean Connery playing a Spanish Egyptian with a stronger Scottish accent than the supposed highlander.
The premise of the original, for those that haven’t seen it, is a battle between a race of immortals on Earth who can only be killed by decapitation and must compete against each other until they are the last remaining immortal who wins the “Prize”. In case you hadn’t guessed, by the end of the movie the highlander, Connor MacLeod defeats all the other immortals and the film reaches a full conclusion. Yet they decided to make sequels that made no sense and were a mockery of the original.
The remake promises to stick to that same premise, and hopefully the same mistakes will not be made this time round.
