20 year old Michelle Childers from Idaho had a lucky escape from death when she was skewered through the neck with a tree branch following a freak accident.
Childers was driving along in the passenger seat of her car, with her husband Daniel earlier this month when a spruce tree crashed through the passenger side window and impaled her through the neck.
Childers said that in the confusion all she felt was a strange pressure in her neck and shoulder, her husband told her that the tree limb had penetrated her neck. The couple drove to a nearby Lodge near the Idaho-Montana border and called for help.
Michelle was airlifted to hospital where surgeons worked for six hours to remove the tree branch from Michelle’s neck, the branch had penetrated her neck by eight inches and had narrowly missed the jugular vein. Doctors say if the branch had been just fractions of an inch out it would have severed the vein and Michelle would have surely bled to death.
