Sumatra expedition 2009Four explorers from the Devon based Centre for Fortean Zoology are about to embark on an expedition to find the elusive orang-pendek, or Indonesian Yeti.

Richard Freeman, the zoological director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology and full time cryptozoologist will be heading the team when they set off for the jungles of Sumatra. Last year Freeman risked terrorist attack when he ventured to Russia in search of their mysterious wildman known as the Almasty.

Freeman will be joined on the exploration by Dr Chris Clark, a trained astrophysicist who has taken part in previous CFZ expeditions. Also on the team is Dave Archer, a CFZ member who made his first crypto expedition with Freeman last year searching for the Almasty.

Adam Davies completes the team, Davies works for the Home Office and is also a seasoned veteran to crypto expeditions.

The team are hoping to see or gather evidence of the orang-pendek, a bipedal ape that closely resembles the orang-utan but is much bigger and walks upright like a Yeti. Discovery of the beast could answer many questions about the so called missing link and how humans came to walk on two feet rather than on all fours.

You can keep track of the expedition with regular updates at the CFZ blog: CFZ Sumatra 2009 .
