A German spider expert has discovered a new species of spider in Malaysia and named it after rock legend David Bowie.

Peter Jäger has discovered 200 new species of spider in the past ten years, most of them went straight on the endangered list. Jäger hopes that naming the ugly critters after huge celebrities will help draw attention to the plight of the arachnids and somehow assist their preservation.

The Heteropoda David Bowie is a particularly nasty looking wee beastie, a bright yellow, hairy, scary monster. But remember, David Bowie is probably more afraid of you than you are of it.
