A remake of the 1958 classic The Blob starring a young Steve McQueen is on the cards, and Rob Zombie will be behind it.
Zombie has just reignited the Halloween franchise, the originally entitled Halloween II is set for cinematic release this week and has received some less than enthusiastic reviews.
Now Zombie is turning his attention to The Blob. The original was a rather strange tale of a large undefined blob which falls from space and begins devouring people by simply absorbing them. The more people that the blob absorbs, the bigger it gets and continues to rampage across a small town in America until the heroes freeze it using fire extinguishers. I know, it sounds awesome.
A piss poor sequel, Beware! The Blob was made in 1972 and was directed by Dallas star Larry Hagman. The Blob has also already had a remake, in 1988 there was a reasonably fair version of the film made starring Kevin Dillon and written by Frank Darabont.
The most intriguing part of the news Zombie wants to remake The Blob again is, he wants to get rid of the blob.
“My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change,” Zombie told Variety.
“That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.”
