Phillip and Nancy Garrido
Phillip Garrido and his wife Nancy Garrido (pictured) have both been charged with the abduction of Jaycee Dugard and holding her captive for the past 18 years in a makeshift prison in their backyard. During that time Mr Garrido sired two daughters with Dugard, the girls are now aged 11 and 15. That would mean Jaycee Dugard was just 14 when she gave birth to her first child.
Garrido is on lifetime parole for previous rape and kidnap charges dating back to the 70s, yet despite regular home visits by parole board officials they failed to notice the three extra people living in Garrido’s backyard. The parole officers claim it was an easy mistake to make as the prison where Jaycee Dugard and her children have been held for the past 18 years was hidden behind a tarpaulin flap. Neighbours and acquaintances of Phillip Garrido have told reporters that Dugard and her two children were seen regularly with Garrido, he called Jaycee “Allissa” and it is believed she worked at Garrido’s printing company as a designer.
[quote]The shocked community in Antioch where Garrido lives describe him as nutty and possibly retarded.
Speaking on the telephone to KCRA Garrido claims he’s turned his life around and believes that when people hear the full story from Jaycee Dugard they will be surprised at what a heart warming story it actually is.
“Wait until you hear the story of what took place at this house,” he said.
“You are going to be completely impressed. It’s a disgusting thing that took place with me at the beginning. But I turned my life completely around, and to be able to understand that, you have to start there.”
“You’re going to find the most powerful story coming from the witness, the victim, you wait. If you take this a step at a time you’re going to fall over backwards, and in the end, you’re going to find the most powerful heart warming story.”
