The famous South American cannibals who survived a plane crash in the Andes in 1972 by eating the other dead passengers are heading an organ donation campaign in Uruguay.

Survivors from the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 disaster in 1972 were forced to eat their dead friends in order to survive whilst stuck on the side of a mountain in the wreck of a plane for 72 days.

Now the 16 survivors have agreed to raise awareness of Uruguay’s National Donation and Transplant Institute,. In 1972 the survivors of Flight 571 made a pact with each other that if they were to die the others could eat their remains. Now the survivors are asking the people of Uruguay to make a similar pact, so that in the event of their death their organs can be put to good use saving someone else’s life.
