Katherine Nadal Found Guilty

A Houston jury took just three hours deliberating to find Katherine Nadal guilty of emasculating her five week old son Holden Gothia.

Sentencing will take place next week, and Nadal who showed no emotion as the verdict was read out could face the rest of her life in prison.

Over the past week the court has heard that Nadal was a habitual drug abuser who had tested positive for cocaine, methadone and Xanax following the attack on little Holden who’s penis and testicles were sliced off with an undetermined sharp object. The court was told how Nadal had argued with the boy’s father Camden Gothia about getting Holden circumcised, the night before the attack. And the jury were also shown a pair of meat shears which detectives found in Nadal’s bedroom the day after the attack.

Nadal’s defence had been that the family pet, a miniature dachshund had caused the injury and the dog had eaten the boy’s genitals along with a blood soaked torn nappy. Expert witnesses for the prosecution argued that the injury couldn’t have possibly been caused by the dog who had no blood or human tissue anywhere in it’s mouth, fur or paws.

In the closing arguments yesterday prosecutor Tammy Thomas told the court:

“Their reasonable explanation, are you ready for this? The dog ate the evidence, that doesn’t even work for homework anymore. It’s not only unbelievable, it’s ridiculous.”

Holden Gothia who is now two years old lives with his father’s sister and her husband and has regular contact with his father. Doctors say he faces years of reconstructive surgery and a lifetime of hormone treatments.
