Connor Cruise, the adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman has landed a part in the forthcoming Red Dawn remake.
14 year old Connor made his screen debut last year playing a young Will Smith in the film Seven Pounds. The BBC reports that Connor will be playing the part of Daryl in the Red Dawn remake. If the character is the same as the Daryl in the original 80s classic he will turn out to be a slimy, treacherous double-crosser who betrays his friends to the Russians.
Also joining the cast is former Home and Away star Chris Hemsworth who will be playing Jed Eckert, a role originally filled by cancer sufferer Patrick Swayze. Readers may or may not remember Hemsworth as Kim Hyde in the Australian TV soap Home and Away. I don’t.
Another Home and Away star, hottie Isabel Lucas is also lined up to play the part of Erica. Erica was originally played by Mrs McFly herself, Lea Thompson and is the love interest in the film. Isabel Lucas played Tasha Andrews in Home and Away and has more recently appeared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
For those readers who haven’t seen the brilliant original movie it starred Swayze, Thompson, Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell amongst others. Released in 1984, before the end of the Cold War, it told the story of a group of youngsters becoming a band of guerrillas in an occupied America invaded by Russian and Cuban soldiers. The group name themselves The Wolverines after their high school football team, and set about kicking Soviet ass.
The remake begins filming in Detroit next month, and this time around the Cubans will be replaced by the Chinese. Red Dawn should hit our screens in 2010.
