This is Max, a mongrel from New Iberia in Louisiana who is 26 years old (182 in dog years).
Max’s owner Janelle DeRouen heard news reports of a 21 year old dog from New York called Chanel being crowned the world’s oldest dog and decided she would set the record straight.
DeRouen produced vets records which prove that little Max was born on 9th August 1983.
“He’s a very, very laid back dog. He’ll play with the kids for a bit but if they bother him too long he’ll wander off.” DeRouen told the World Records Academy.
“He doesn’t have any fancy toys, just a bit of rope and a regular squeaky ball.”
DeRouen says that despite Max’s long years he’s still fit and healthy.
“The only time I had to bring him to the vet for something serious was for a tooth to be extracted. But that’s it,” she says.
“He is starting to get cataracts, a little arthritis, but otherwise he’s healthy.”
