A 14 year old boy in South Gloucestershire was attacked this weekend by a gang of youths who used a snake to attack him.
The unnamed boy was pinned down and a snake was forced to bite him on the arm. Paramedics were called to the scene when the boy began having breathing problems, but the snake was identified as a non-venomous python.
The Guardian reports that a witness saw a group of youths all carrying snakes, they chose a four foot python to inflict the bite which left the victim with two puncture wounds in his arm. The witness claims that the snake wrapped itself around the victim’s arm and then sunk it’s fangs into him.
Quick thinking paramedics used their mobile phones to access the internet and Google for images of snakes so the victim could identify which had bitten him. Once identified the details of the snake were passed on to Bristol Zoo for advice. Staff at the zoo confirmed that the snake was a non-venomous python.
Michael Howells, an incident support officer for Great Western ambulance service told the Guardian: “The patient was suffering breathing difficulties after the attack, probably due to panic rather than a reaction to the bite. I would probably be panicky if that happened to me.”
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman told the BBC: “The teenager had been subject to racist comments and was then reportedly held down as a snake was held in front of him, which bit his right arm.
“The boy was taken to Frenchay Hospital with breathing problems, where he was treated for the injury to his arm.”
Two youths aged 16 and 17 are being questioned by the police.
