The owner of the eight and a half foot Burmese python which killed two year old Shaiunna Hare last month has been arrested on drugs charges.
ABC reports that 32 year old Charles Darnell was arrested at his Florida home on Friday afternoon following a week long investigation. He has been charged with several drugs offences after he sold cocaine to undercover police officers.
In July Darnell was at the centre of a controversial snake death scandal when his pet python escaped from it’s unlocked cage and strangled to death his girlfriend’s two year old daughter. No charges have been brought against Darnell, or his partner Jaren Hare following the tragic death of young Shaiunna. Since this case emerged there has been a huge public outcry in Florida for stronger legislation concerning keeping potentially dangerous snakes as pets, and there has also been a State wide hunt for feral Burmese pythons which are overrunning the Everglades.
