Katherine NadalKatherine Nadal will stand trial next week for allegedly slicing off her five week old son’s genitals with a knife.

In March 2007 authorities entered Nadal’s home in Texas to find her baby son, Holden Gothia covered in blood. The boy’s genitals were missing and there was also a wound in his upper leg. Nadal claims the injuries were caused by her 12 pound miniature dachshund, a claim disputed by a vet and a doctor as no blood or human tissue were found in the dog’s mouth. The missing penis has in fact never been found.

Prosecutors claim that Nadal was high on drugs at the time and she mutilated the infant with a knife or other sharp instrument.

Nadal told police that Holden had been in her bed, when she awoke she discovered the child’s injuries which must have been caused by the dog, but admits she did not witness the attack. The child’s father, Camden Gothia was out at work at the time of the attack.

The prosecution say that both a vet and a doctor employed by Houston Animal Control have stated that the injuries could not have been caused by the dog.

“The injuries were certainly not caused by a dog (which would have produced ragged edges), but rather by a person using a sharp cutting instrument” the medical expert wrote in his statement.

News West 9 report that Nadals defence team however still insist the dog is guilty and claim they have an expert witness to prove this.

The dog has been adopted and rehoused. Holden Gothia now lives with his father.

Nadal has been in prison since she was arrested in 2007, if convicted she could face life in prison. Jury selection begins on 6th August.
