Hindus in West Bengal have performed a wedding ceremony to marry two frogs.
The primitive folk believe that the amphibian marriage will bring about the monsoon rains they need to prevent further drought in the region. The frogs were named Ram and Sita and the ceremony involved the usual Hindu traditions of fasting and painting the heads with vermilion.
“We feted about 3,000 villagers and solemnised the marriage with every single ritual,” the head of the local council told Reuters.
“The women at the wedding fasted beforehand and then invited the river to join the ceremony and give its blessing, as is customary in Bengali tradition.”
