The highly acclaimed vampire TV show True Blood begins it’s UK run on Friday night at 21:00 on FX.
True Blood has been described as Twilight for adults. It’s an exciting mix of Southern Gothic horror, extreme violence and graphic sex, and stars the lovely X-Men babe Anna Paquin. The show is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris and is produced by Alan Ball. No, not the dead, squeaky-voiced footballer, but the one who was screenwriter on American Beauty and also produced another exceptional TV drama, Six Feet Under.
The show focuses on Paquin’s character Sookie Stackhouse, in a world where humans and vampires co-exist without too much trouble. Stackhouse is a human telepath who falls in love with a vampire.
The show has been widely received and hugely successful in the States, season two is currently running in America and Ball has already announced that he will begin filming a third season before the year is out. It looks like True Blood might be one of few US TV shows that arrive in the UK whilst they still have a future, it’s becoming tiresome starting to watch a new show on UK TV only to find out that it’s already been axed in the States.
