Cars Of The Future Will Run On Urine

Piss in fuel tankHydrogen fuelled cars have been an eco-friendly dream for years. Hydrogen can be produced by running an electric current through water and splitting it into it’s two elements, hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen can then be used to fuel combustion engines and the only emissions produced are water. When hydrogen burns it oxidizes and just creates water.

If only it were that simple. The sticking point is that it requires relatively large amounts of energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, but a University in Ohio have discovered that urine is much easier to extract hydrogen from and requires only 1/3 of the voltage needed to split water. Researchers found that the hydrogen in urine is much more loosely bonded than in water, it can be generated with far less energy and using only cheap materials and equipment.

This new discovery not only means cleaner cars, but less toilet flushing at home as people would store all their piss in bottles in the garage.
