An amateur stuntman has set a new world record for running whilst on fire.
Scotsman Keith Malcolm risked his skin to get in the Guinness Book of World Records by sprinting 259 ft whilst engulfed in flames. The previous record was a pathetic 227 ft, but Malcolm had struggled to beat that on his earlier attempt back in May. He missed his target by at least 40 ft on that attempt, but he was eventually triumphant this weekend at the event held at the Alton and North East Hampshire Agricultural Show.
In order to set the new world record for running the farthest distance while on fire Malcolm had to wear four layers of fireproof underwear, three pairs of overalls (which were hopefully Proban), a Formula One race jacket, three fire hoods and a motorbike helmet. Once he was dressed properly he was simply doused in petrol and set alight.
“It was amazing, a textbook run which could not have gone any better,” he said.
“I have always wanted to do two things in life: being set on fire and breaking a world record and I have done both.”
