Shaiunna HareThe two year old child killed by her family’s pet python yesterday has been named as Shaiunna Hare. Shaiunna lived with her mother Jaren Hare and her mother’s boyfriend Charles Darnell who owned the snake.

TV 20 in Florida have reported that the child was found by Darnell at 09:00 yesterday morning local time. The snake was wrapped around the toddler and there were bite marks on her forehead. The animal was an eight and a half foot long albino Burmese python, and Darnell did not have a permit to keep such a large snake. Investigators also found a second snake, a boa constrictor on the premises which also had no permit.

The snake was stabbed by Darnell, but is only injured. Officials say the reptile will be rehoused, and they are investigating whether or not there was any neglect. Darnell has not yet been charged with anything, but owning a dangerous snake without a permit is a second degree misdemeanor.
