A scientist in Melbourne, Australia thinks he may have found a treatment which will suppress neurofibromatosis, the disease which causes tumours to grow on people’s nerve endings almost anywhere on their bodies.

James O’Neal, Ed Port and Tonderai Mandigumura all suffer from the condition and are desperate for a cure. Huang Chuncai, who is known as China’s Elephant Man has the rare condition and in May we reported on the Pakistani Elephant Man. All of these men’s lives, and many more could be drastically changed by this remarkable new discovery.

The National Business Review in New Zealand have reported that professor Hiroshi Maruta may have discovered an amazing new bee health product which they say will be an even bigger international success than Manuka honey. Manuka is already a massive hit due to it’s health properties, it’s antibiotic and antiseptic qualities are astounding.

Professor Maruta’s research looked into the cancer fighting properties of propolis. Propolis is another sticky substance produced by bees from tree resins they collect. It is used by the bees in constructing their hives, it offers structural stability, reduced vibration and it also prevents diseases and parasites from entering the hive. If a foreign creature were to enter a beehive and die the bees cover the carcass in a layer of propolis which mummifies the corpse and stops the spread of bacteria etc within the hive.

New Zealand company Manuka Health already produce a propolis product which is sold as a health supplement. Professor Maruta found that in test subjects given the propolis and Manuka capsules their tumours began to shrink after 6 to 12 months of treatment. Up to now the test subjects have all been mice, but Maruta is ready to go to the next stage in his research.

But it isn’t just good news for Elephant Men, professor Maruta says that the propolis has such potent anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties that it could even cure swine flu.
