Demons vanquished

DemonsITV turkey Demons has been scrapped, never to return despite an eleventh hour bid to save the failing show.

The show was earmarked for the dustbin months ago when it’s biggest star Philip Glenister quit, due to it being quite shit. earlier this month though the show’s production company, Shine, approached US broadcasters Sci Fi TV with a deal to help finance a second series. Primeval tried the same thing, but both shows have been dropped by ITV who say they are only concentrating on post-watershed dramas.

It would seem that ITV have decided they’re too high brow for science fiction and fantasy, and will be ditching their best shots at decent Saturday night entertainment in favour of more crappy reality shows no doubt. Demons had floundered in it’s first series, but was showing promise. Primeval was proof enough that you can’t double guess your audience. Despite some very poor acting and weak CGI the show has become surprisingly popular, and Demons could well have gone the same way if given a chance to develop. The bottom line at ITV is clearly the filthy lucre, science fiction is just too expensive for them to produce. Hopefully in the UK the BBC will pick up the slack. Shame on you ITV.
