Snake Bites Postman

Delivering mail seems to be a risky business when it comes to reptile attacks, in April a postman in Somerset was bitten by a venomous adder whilst out on his rounds and now this week a postman in County Durham has had an encounter with a snake.

The unnamed postie says he was walking along Kipling Close, Stanley delivering letters and parcels when he felt something fal out of a tree onto his shoulder. He raised his hand to brush off whatever had landed on him and received a sharp bite on his hand.

The quick thinking mailman quickly grabbed the snake before it could escape and took it to a pet shop where it was identified as a harmless corn snake. Corn snakes are practically domestic animals these days, mostly born and bred in captivity for the pet trade.

The helpful postman even managed to track down the snake’s rightful owners, on Kipling Close. They say the runaway reptile had been missing for several weeks. It must have been getting hungry and fancied a postman for lunch.
