Robot snakeThe Israeli Defence Force is currently testing a snake style battlefield robot for use in combat situations.

Israeli news network Channel 2 have shown footage of a snake robot fitted with a camera and microphone moving among caves, tunnels and cracks in buildings. All information it discovers is then sent back to a laptop computer held by a soldier.

Scientists studied real snakes to mimic the movements that allow the two metre robot to wriggle into enemy positions and relay information back to the soldiers. The robots are covered in a camouflaged fabric and move easily on level ground and rocky surfaces.

Channel 2 have suggested that the robots could be fitted with explosives to become “smart bombs” which can seek out their targets before detonating.
