Albino Trials Begin In Tanzania

The long overdue albino murder trials have begun in Tanzania.

In recent months as many as 40 albinos have been ritually murdered and hacked to pieces so witch doctors can use their skin, bones and genitals in voodoo fetishes. To date no one has yet been convicted for the brutal crimes.

But all that may soon change, the trials follow similar ones in neighbouring Burundi where 11 people are standing trial in connection with the slayings. Five separate trials began in north Tanzania today, with more believed to be following in other regions.

Human Rights groups have been putting tremendous pressure on the Tanzanian authorities to put an end to the killings and make find justice for the victims and their families.

Powerful businessmen are being blamed on the demand for albino genitals, they are seeking black magic potions from traditional healers which they believe will make them rich and successful. But how high does the corruption go? Last month The Morningstarr* reported how even politicians in Ghana have been accused of carrying out albino murders.
