The UK’s number one shark fisherman Frank Vinnicombe has been telling how a 13ft Mako shark jumped out of the sea and shredded his haul.

The Sun reports that 86 year old Frank was out on his boat with his first mate fishing for mackerel last week, approximately one and a half miles off the Cornish coast. Frank is something of a Mako expert, he was the last person to catch a Mako in British waters and that was almost 30 years ago.

“This was a beast, around 350-400lb.” He told The Sun.

“It jumped straight out of the water, which other sharks don’t do, and tore my catch to shreds. I’ve been fishing off the coast here every day of my life and I’ve seen more British sharks than anyone alive. This was a Mako.”

The Mako is a fearsome shark which moves extremely quickly through the water and has a reputation for attacking swimmers and fishermen. The shark has a nasty habit of jumping out of the water onto fishing boats if they get caught and then biting off the arms and legs of fishermen.
