Gerry Anderson’s cult 70′s sci-fi show UFO is to be turned into a Hollywood movie.

The original show first aired in 1970, and ran for just 26 episodes. The show’s creators Gerry and Sylvia Anderson are of course well known for their puppet shows, Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet. UFO was their first live action television series, the pair had however produced one live action feature film previously.

The show was based in the then near future of 1980 and is set around an extra-terrestrial invasion of the earth. Humans are being hunted and harvested for their internal organs and the future of humanity relies on the resistance fighters of SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation). SHADO is a super secret organisation who are highly equipped with state of the art technological weaponry.

Robert Evans, who produced The Saint movie adaptation has signed on to produce the new movie, which will this time be set in the year 2020. Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek wil be writing the screenplay.
