Alyssa Milano
The film star has announced that production on the film will begin this winter and the entire cast of leading actors will be returning to the film. That means Aykroyd will be joined by all the former Ghostbusters, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray who has always been blamed for the lack of a third movie.
Original director Ivan Reitman, who worked on both the previous films has not been confirmed though, and Ramis may be stepping into his shoes to direct this time round.
Aykroyd spoke about Murray’s lack of previous enthusiasm for a third film saying he didn’t blame him for not wanting to reprise his role as Pete Venkman for a third time.
“You can’t blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God’s sake. Although I’m the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I’ve never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he’s an artist. You can’t force somebody into it.”
To add further excitement to the announcement Aykroyd revealed that the plot will focus around the old Ghostbusters team handing over the responsibilities to a younger, sexier generation of spook catchers. Aykroyd told the Hero Complex that he hoped to see Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku and Charmed hottie Alyssa Milano in khaki jumpsuits for the third movie.
“I think they’re amazing,” he said.
