Television network NBC have made some shock decisions this week regarding their autumn 2009 schedule.

Earlier this month The Morningstarr* reported that NBC would be continuing to produce Medium, and also the hit comedy My Name Is Earl. However this week NBC announced the exact opposite, neither show was included in their autumn schedule. The cancellation of My Name Is Earl has come as a complete shock to the show’s stars and producer, as well as millions of fans who were certain it would be returning for a fifth season.

Actor Ethan Suplee who plays Earl’s brother randy in the show posted on his Twitter account today about the surprise bad news.

“Just got the call that My Name Is Earl has been cancelled,” he wrote. “They sure did take their time with that decision… or rather informing us of it.”

The show’s creator Greg Garcia is hoping the programme will be picked up by one of NBC’s competitors, possibly Fox Network.

Luckily for Medium fans that is the case. Within just hours of the show being cancelled, rival network CBS announced they would be producing the sixth season of the Golden Globe nominated drama.

A further surprise was the news that the comedy Chuck will be renewed by NBC. Most people had written that show off already, but it will return for a fourth season.
