A Morningstarr* reader from Norfolk has contacted us this week with another reported sighting of the mysterious Norfolk Big Cat which has reportedly been prowling the East Anglia countryside for the past few months.
The reader, who wishes to remain anonymous contacted us yesterday to tell us she had seen what appeared to be a large black beast with a long tail which curled up, like that of a cat. The creature was in the woman’s back garden, and the sighting took place at around 03:00am yesterday morning (14th May 2009).
On this occasion the creature was spotted on the Harvey Estate in Gimingham. The keen eyed reader suffers from insomnia and was still awake at that early hour watching television when she was alerted to an intruder in her garden by the activation of a security light. On investigation she witnessed the creature quickly exiting her property.
“I don’t sleep too good, and when I do its quite light, so this morning at around 3am I was watching telly in my room” she told us.
“Then for some reason the outside spotlight came on in the back garden, so I got up and looked out of my window to see what had turned it on. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at, it was big and black with a long tail and it sort of curled. I only saw the back half as it was exiting my garden, no way it was a pussy cat or a dog.”
That morning, once the sun was up an inspection of the area revealed a few black hairs the creature possibly left behind, and signs something had been sleeping under the bushes just outside the garden area. Our reader also tells us that her own pet cats have been acting slightly differently, the tom cat making extra effort to mark out his territory along the garden boundaries. The hairs will hopefully be sent to a zoologist to determine their source.
This latest sighting now brings the total to 13 sightings in the past 18 months. Zoom in on this map to see details of all the reported sightings of big cats in Norfolk in the past 18 months.
