Haringey is not the place to be if you’re a toddler. The area of London has been plagued recently by alleged failings of the borough council to protect toddlers. In the past few month’s Haringey council has hit the headlines for failing to protect “Baby P“, who was horrifically tortured and killed by his parents. It then emerged that the man who was convicted of the death of Baby P had also raped a two year old girl. The sad record for child protection in Haringey even dates back to 2000 with the sad case of Victoria Climbié.
Now another tragedy has hit the area, yesterday evening a two year old boy ran onto the tracks of a fairground ride and was killed when the “Go-Gator” rollercoaster struck him. The fairground was at Ducketts Common in Turnpike Lane, Haringey, and the boy was with both his parents at the time. The Metro reports that the police were called to the fairground at around 19:45 last night, an ambulance also arrived and the boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The fairground was closed after the accident and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating. No arrests have been made.
