Flaming Lips Record Double Album

The Flaming Lips have announced that they will be releasing a double album in September, witht the working title “Embryonic“.

The band say they decided to make it an epic double album whilst jamming at drummer, Steven Drozd’s house. Lead singer Wayne Coyne told Billboard that the idea of producing their first ever double album just occurred to him one day whilst practicing.

“Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that we should do a double album. Just this idea that you can kind of weave a couple of themes into there and you can sort of sprawl a little bit.” He said.

“There was an element of accidentally stumbling upon more spontaneous sort of freak-out stuff,” Coyne added.

The band told the NME that they have finished recording 13 tracks and plan to add another eight or nine before completion.
